If you're looking into cannabidiol (CBD), you've probably already noticed that its effects are not instantaneous. Depending on the product derived and the method of administration, it takes about twenty minutes at best, and sometimes several hours.
However, the good news is that simple techniques are available to help you benefit more quickly from the effects of cannabinoids.
We're delighted to share them with you, along with the easy way to get an (almost) immediate effect with CBD oil.
3 tips for an (almost) instant effect of CBD oil
Sublingual CBD oil offers the fastest effects for a healthy mode of administration
Tip #1: Choose CBD oil sublingually for an (almost) instant effect
The only way to obtain the immediate effects of CBD is to smoke or inhale one of its derivatives. However, smoking CBD is strongly discouraged, as combustion releases numerous toxins that are harmful to the body. In other words, smoking CBD is more harmful than beneficial. As for inhalation, this involves vaporizing crumbs of CBD flowers or resin, or vaping CBD e-liquid. Here too, toxins are released, but in much smaller quantities.
In short, the only options for obtaining the immediate effects of CBD are modes of use that are not the best for your health. CBD oil therefore becomes the quickest and healthiest way to benefit from its effects. However, an important distinction must be made:
Digestive CBD oil: in an infusion, on sugar or in cooking,CBD oil takes effect when digestion starts. The same goes for edible CBD, which takes at least an hour, if not more, to take effect.
Sublingual CBD oil: under the tongue, CBD oil takes effect in about twenty minutes. The effect is not quite immediate, but almost! This is thanks to the blood vessels under the tongue, which allow CBD to be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream. By comparison, paracetamol takes 30 to 60 minutes to take effect orally (about 15 minutes in effervescent tablet form).
Tip #2: Choose quality ingredients The quality of ingredients can influence the effectiveness and speed of effects.
High-quality CBD can be purer and potentially more effective. This is also true of the other ingredients present in the derivative, notably the vegetable oil used as a base. Prefer the cleanest extraction methods (ideally using supercritical CO2) and ingredients from environmentally-friendly agriculture (free of pesticides and GMOs in particular), like those favored by Lordofcbd.fr.
Tip #3: Opt for a full/broad spectrum CBD oil At equivalent concentrations, a full spectrum CBD oil has more effect than an isolate.
Finally, pay attention to the spectrum of the product if you're looking for immediate effects. The full spectrum contains all the active compounds naturally present in hemp, such as CBD, but also the other cannabinoids (CBG, CBC, CBN and THC up to 0.3%), terpenes and flavonoids. Together, they work synergistically to deliver stronger effects than an oil formulated with CBD isolate. The broad spectrum is similar to the full spectrum, but without certain molecules (usually THC).
To find out more about CBD oil and its time of action
For an immediate or almost immediate effect, nothing beats a sublingual CBD oil
If you don't feel any effects after consuming CBD oil, there are several factors to consider:
It's been less than 20 minutes since you took your sublingual CBD oil. The dosage is insufficient (consult our guide to understand how many drops of cannabidiol to take per dose). CBD oil has been improperly stored: e.g. poorly resealed, exposed to light or heat (see our tips for storing CBD properly). CBD oil is too old: bottles of CBD oil generally have an expiration date. Beyond this date, there is no health risk in consuming it, but its effects may be diminished. The quality of the by-product is not satisfactory (prefer serious retailers such as Lordofcbd.fr).
You have changed brands and the new oil is not equivalent (concentration and/or isolate instead of broad/full spectrum, for example). The time it takes for CBD oil to take effect can vary depending on a number of factors, such as the method of administration, dose, composition and individual reaction. By sublingual route, the effects are felt within 15 to 30 minutes of administration and for 2 to 3 hours. If CBD oil is ingested in the form of capsules or food, the onset of action is around one hour, with effects lasting 4 to 6 hours.
For more information on the various derivatives, you can consult our guide to the duration of CBD's effects.
The effects of CBD don't all happen at once. This depends on the type of product derived and the method of use, but also on the desired effect. For example, a person taking CBD oil for the first time may feel its effects immediately after administering the first few drops. This may help them sleep better, relieve pain or relax. For others, it may be necessary to repeat the process several times before finding the right product and dosage.
However, it's unlikely that you'll achieve lasting stress relief or stop an acne flare-up by using CBD oil just once. Most of the effects associated with a topical (localized) application are seen over the long term. This can be the case if you use hemp oil for acne, psoriasis, eczema or simply to nourish skin and hair.
