Frequently asked questions CBD

What is CBD?

Cannabis is the Latin name for a plant of equatorial origin, hemp, cultivated and domesticated in China as long as 6,000 years ago.

Mainly used in the textile and paper industries, hemp is best known today for one of its psychoactive varieties, Cannabis sativa.

This species contains a drug, THC or tetra-hydro-cannabinol, found mainly in the upper, flowering part of the plant. Marijuana corresponds to the plant's flowers, or trichomes, and contains a high THC content.

Hashish is the preparation obtained from cannabis resin.

Chemical analysis of a cannabis plant shows that it contains over 400 different organic compounds, with two main chemical families: terpenes (10-30%) and cannabinoids, in this case phytocannabinoids since they are of plant origin.

While THC makes up 12-25% of a cannabis plant, cannabidiol or CBD accounts for only 1-4%, which explains why this phytocannabinoid has long gone unnoticed.

It's a bicyclic, lipophilic plant cannabinoid, known in international chemical terminology as 2-[(1R,6R)-6-isopropenyl-3-methylcyclohex-2-en-1-yl]-5-pentylbenzene-1,3-diol.

Although the two compounds are chemically similar, their pharmacological effects are totally different.

THC is a potentially addictive psychoactive agent, acting on CB1 and, to a lesser extent, CB2 receptors, resulting in reduced alertness and side effects such as paranoia and anxiety.

THC acts directly on the central nervous system like a drug. CBD cannabidiol, on the other hand, binds poorly to CB1 receptors, so it has no psychoactive effect on the brain, no known side effects such as intoxication or euphoria, and is strictly non-addictive.

A comprehensive WHO study (2018) clearly proves that CBD is perfectly safe.

In France, the ANSM (Agence nationale de Sécurité du Médicament et des produits de santé) has long confused the two, which explains the debate and legal uncertainty that existed a few years ago. Theoretically, the issue has now been resolved.

Hemp CBD oils consist of a cannabidiol extract combined with an oil base, generally vegetable oil. Thanks to the fatty substance in which the CBD is mixed (hemp oil or coconut oil in particular), it is more easily assimilated by the human organism: we speak of a liposoluble molecule (it is diluted in fat, but not in water). Buying hemp oil gives you two options: an oil with a CBD isolate, or afull spectrum oil that combines CBD with the other cannabinoids naturally present in legal cannabis plants. The effects are then more pronounced thanks to theentourage effect.

Cannabis CBD oils are certainly one of the most versatile and easy ways to consume cannabidiol. They can be taken in a variety of ways:

  • Sublingual CBD oil: the quickest way to feel the effects. Place a few drops under the tongue, wait 30 to 40 seconds, then swallow.
  • CBD oil capsules: simply swallow and wait for digestion. The effects appear later, but the dosage is preset and it's easy to take.
  • CBD oil in cooking: ideal for masking the taste. Drop them on sugar, in a spoonful of honey or in any dish.
  • CBD oil for topical application : directly on the skin, to relieve skin irritation, or as a massage.

Buying hemp oil allows you to enjoy the effects of CBD in a versatile, convenient-to-use form. The effects sought by consumers are numerous:

  • Reduce everyday stress,
  • Relieve chronic pain,
  • Fight insomnia and enjoy better quality sleep,
  • Encourage muscle recovery,
  • Take advantage of CBD's antidepressant effects,
  • Reduce skin irritation,
  • Act against acne problems.

The advantage of CBD oils over other products derived from light cannabis is the gentle way in which they are taken and the wide range of dosages they offer, making it easy to control their effects.

CBD cannabis pollens and resins are the legal form of what is colloquially known as hashish. I

t's simply a matter of extracting the trichomes, the small sticky balls on the surface of cannabis flowers containing the cannabinoids, including CBD. This sticky material is then pressed.

When the concentration of CBD and other cannabinoids is particularly high, the resulting pellet is very sticky: this is known as CBD resin. When the concentration is a little lower, the pellet is drier and more crumbly: it's called CBD pollen.

Just like CBD flowers, CBD resin and pollen are perfectly legal, but nevertheless prohibited for consumption by combustion: it is therefore not possible to smoke them.

Both, on the other hand, lend themselves perfectly to vaporization, which will enable you not only to avoid the harmful aspects of smoking, but also to take full advantage of the aromas offered by the variety from which your CBD cannabis pollen or resin has been extracted.

You can also choose to consume them as an infusion, by placing a small quantity in simmering water, accompanied by a fatty substance.

Cannabis CBD pollens and resins contain a particularly high cannabidiol content and therefore benefit from its effects(relaxation, muscle relaxation, skin soothing, pain relief, anxiety reduction, improved sleep quality, etc.). Directly extracted from light cannabis plants, they also contain other cannabinoids with beneficial effects naturally present in the plant (notably CBG), as well as terpenes and flavonoids, reinforcing the effects while at the same time conferring all the interest of a variety's aromatic bouquet.

Smoking CBD flowers, even if legal, remains prohibited. They can, however, be consumed by vaporization or infusion. Rich in color, they also make original decorative objects for some collectors. Using CBD flowers is very simple:

  • Vaporize CBD flowers: place the desired quantity in the tank of your plant material vaporizer, then follow the manufacturer's recommendations for use to enjoy the vape.

  • Infuse CBD flowers: coarsely chop your flower and place a spoonful in simmering water for around ten minutes. Drink with a full-fat milk to benefit from the effects of CBD.
